Martial Arts is Not Just a Workout

Many people are looking for a challenge. They don’t want to do the same repetitive workouts, they want to improve their physical health while learning a new skill. People want growth, personal development and improved fitness. Martial Arts training at Arashi-Do offers all this and more.

Improved Fitness

Most recommendations are that adults get a minimum of 150 minutes per week of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. According to the Edmonton City News, the majority of Canadians, 84% in fact, aren’t meeting this target. (https://edmonton.citynews.ca/2019/10/29/canadian-adults-get-d-grade-for-physical-fitness-levels/) If you enjoy your workouts you are more likely to stick to and make them a priority. The key to enjoying your workout? Finding your thing! Martial arts classes at Arashi-Do are engaging, challenging and fun. You learn real skills while improving your fitness and challenging yourself mentally as well as physically.

Self Defence

Karate, Muay Thai or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu all teach effective, functional techniques that you can practice and utilize to protect yourself should the need arise. Many of our students report that they feel more self confident and have an increased awareness of their surroundings that they attribute directly to their training. The knowledge that if the situation arose they could protect themselves or their family gives students of martial arts increased confidence in their day to day life.

Find Community

Arashi-Do Martial Arts is a family. Your instructors, training partners and classmates will help push you, cheer you on and help you get better. Joining a martial arts school with a family feel allows you to develop friendships on and off the mats.

Challenge Yourself

Martial arts is about technical skill, physical fitness and self mastery. Gichin Funakoshi, the Father of Modern Day Karate is quoted as saying, “The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants.” Martial Arts is recognized as more than a sport, it instills solid values in its practitioners. Setting goals, whether to achieve a belt, compete in a tournament, or train for a fight and then challenging yourself to get there is a growth experience. Getting a little uncomfortable, working hard and achieving your goals will facilitate personal growth.
